Biathlete Valeria Zhabbarova proved her innocence and avoided disqualification for a positive meldonium doping test with the help of legal group Clever Consult, according to the firm’s Telegram channel.
— The athlete requested legal assistance after receiving a notification from the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) regarding a positive meldonium doping test. Confident in her innocence, however, she did not know how the banned substance could enter her body, the report said.
The head of sports practice of the organization, Anna Antseliovich, said that the concentration of the substance in the sample was low, and shortly before that, Zhabbarova passed a clean sample. Thus, the lawyers suspected a case of so-called food contamination.
– To confirm this theory, a scientific experiment was organized – a study of meat and milk from farm animals for their content of meldonium after the use of the veterinary drug “Emidonol”. In conjunction with previous studies on milk and published in leading scientific journals, a position has been prepared proving the possibility of getting a positive meldonium doping test after eating contaminated food.
The RAA RUSADA Anti-Doping Disciplinary Commission considered that the biathlete’s guilt for violation of anti-doping rules was minimal and imposed a sanction in the form of a warning, that is, without a period of disqualification. We congratulate Valeria and her family! We wish him many more sporting victories on the track! – summarizes the press service of “Clever Consult”.
Zhabbarova, 20, represents the Moscow region in Russian competitions. In 2019, she completed the standard of the Master of Sports of Russia.
