russian biathlete Irina Kazakevich does not consider that the weather conditions during the PARI Commonwealth Cup women’s sprint in Sochi were dangerous for the athletes.
Kazakevich took two penalties on Thursday to finish third, 2.3 seconds behind winner Dinara Alimbekova.
– After arrival, you were sprayed with water. Does it help you recover?
Yes, it really helps. Probably, today all the staff were involved in creating the most refreshing conditions for us. What is at the start, what is far away, what is at the end. Many thanks to our team for this! It was difficult for us because of the weather conditions, as we were even sprayed on the track, Kazakevich told .
What are the doctors saying about this heat? Is it dangerous for athletes?
– In principle, all professional sports are dangerous, everyone is in the same conditions.
– During the women’s sprint, the display board reported that the temperature had reached 46 degrees.
– I think the thermometer here is in the sun, it’s getting hot. I think it’s 32-33 degrees now. During training camp it was about the same, maybe a little colder. Usually, we trained to hell: we were in the sun from 8 to 11, then we were already working in the gym.
– Anton Babikov said it was hard for him to imagine how he would prepare for the next race. Do you have the same?
– It is very difficult, especially since the distance increases every day. I think you have to be patient to understand all the conditions. I hope we can do better in the future.
