russian biathlete Anton Babikov said that the nominal glasses of the Olympic champion in cross-country skiing Alexandra Legkova helped him win the sprint at the BET Commonwealth Cup in Sochi.
Babikov covered a faultless 10 km distance in 23 minutes 44.4 seconds, ahead of Eduard Latypov and Alexei Vagin.
– After the finish, I was so tired that it is difficult to imagine how to go to the start tomorrow. Now I will try to recover, in this heat you have to apply maximum force to recover. Today I didn’t even go to the gym to be in the sun as little as possible. I think that was fair. Now 38 degrees is of course very difficult, especially at such a height,” Babikov told reporters.
– The name of Alexander Legkov is written on your glasses. It’s a gift?
– Yes. These wonderful glasses were given to me by Evgeny Dementiev with such a famous surname, which here in Sochi gives special strength. Thanks a lot. They had to help today.
– Would it be easier for you to start later, so as not to run in such heat?
– It gets dark very quickly here, we should organize such a night race. Here, many are wary of the track, so it would be dangerous. We were lucky though, and the girls run in very hot weather.
Are you trying to be more careful on this track?
– The track here is not very difficult. It’s just that Ilnaz (Mukhamedzyanov, who came across the deployment – Editor’s note) came here after the Seminsky pass, he probably got involved in competition work too quickly. Everybody makes mistakes. It also depends on the rollers, they all feel differently on the leg.
We add that Legkov acted as a commentator on the summer biathlon show for for the first time in his career.
