“I don’t see the point of changing citizenship: running and getting results here” – Olympic medalist in biathlon Latypov

Triple Olympic medalist Edward Latypov told that he hadn’t thought about changing sporting citizenship as part of the suspension of Russian athletes.

Previously, the Executive Committee of the International Biathlon Union (IBU) decided to extend the suspension of the membership of the Russian Biathlon Union (RBU) and the Belarusian Biathlon Federation (BFB) until certain conditions are met.

– It was expected. At the very beginning of the suspension, they already said that this year would most likely be without international departures. Now nothing has changed. We had planned to race in the Russian Cup and the Commonwealth Cup, so we prepared.

– That is to say that you had already understood in the fall that there would be no World Cup in the spring?

– There is a little hope, a small percentage. But I am preparing despite everything without any indulgence towards myself to be ready.

– In this statement, the IBU demanded that the RRF clearly distance itself from the conflict in Ukraine and not allow officials or athletes to be actively involved in the actions of the Russian military. An interesting point is that many biathletes, including you, are part of CSKA and have titles.

To be honest, I don’t know all the details. I haven’t even seen the official documents. We are preparing as always.

– What do you think of the change in sports citizenship?

– I don’t see the point. I do not think so. Run here, get results here, and that’s it.

The proposals of the executive committee will be submitted for approval to the IBU congress, which will be held from September 15 to 18 in Salzburg. According to the statutes of the IBU, the decision of the executive committee to abolish the federation will be valid until the congress and must be examined by the members.
