Belarusian biathlete Smolsky: “I’m not looking to change nationality, I feel good in my country”

Belarusian biathlete Anton Smolsky told he is not looking to change his sporting citizenship as he is comfortable in his country.

Previously, the Executive Committee of the International Biathlon Union (IBU) decided to extend the suspension of the membership of the Russian Biathlon Union (RBU) and the Belarusian Biathlon Federation (BFB) until certain conditions are met.

On Saturday, the Belarusian biathlete Dinara Alimbekova said he received an offer to change sports citizenship.

– This proposal (to Dinara) was in the form of a comic. The man wrote on social media and offered to move to another country. Dinara laughs at this proposal. I have not received such offers: I am an ethnic Belarusian, I am not looking to change my nationality, I feel good in my country,” Smolsky said.

On Sunday, Smolsky took second place in the 15k mass start at the BET Commonwealth Cup in Sochi.

– It was difficult to prepare (for the competition), because we only arrived here the day before the races. We got used to the heat, as we had about the same weather in Raubichi. On the first lap, you had to be as careful as possible, so all the guys tried not to break each other’s gear. And in difficult turns each other assured and slowed down. There were small contacts, but involuntary. I just had to warn the opponents so that at times they would be more careful,” he added.
