Olympic biathlon champion Svetlana Sleptsova said on that under the conditions of international sanctions, Russian sport is under threat.
Previously, the Executive Committee of the International Biathlon Union (IBU) decided to extend the suspension of the membership of the Russian Biathlon Union (RBU) and the Belarusian Biathlon Federation (BFB) until certain conditions are met.
– What do you think of the fact that our athletes are deprived of international experience?
“I think it will be a big step back,” Sleptsova said on ‘s Loud show. – To run a season or two in Russia – it will be a failure of our Russian sport. Not just biathlon.
– As far as I know, you communicate with the President of the Russian Biathlon Union (RBU) Viktor Maigurov. These starts – the Commonwealth Cup, the Russian Cup stage, the Russian Championship – should be enough to keep the form at the right level?
– I think it will be enough for a year, a maximum of one and a half years, no more. Because our athletes will get tired of competing against each other, and someone will say it’s not interesting anymore. Someone said this season will be bug work, you can try something new.
RBU’s and ESB’s membership of the IBU was suspended in March this year after the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recommended not to allow Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in the tournaments due to the situation in Ukraine.
