“Politicians are absolutely purple what Klebo thinks of the admission of Russian skiers” – Bessmertnykh

Olympic silver medalist skier Alexander Bessmertnykh believes that the Norwegian skier’s statement Johannes Klebo on the admission of Russians to tournaments in the 2022/23 season will not change the position of the International Ski Federation (FIS), since the opinions of athletes in this situation are not taken into account.

Earlier, five-time Olympic champion Klebo said Russian skiers should be allowed to compete internationally “for the common good” because he “always wants to fight the strongest and defeat them”.

– This is just one athlete’s opinion, and whatever he says, the policy is unlikely to change because of it. Maybe other skiers who respect him will listen to him and think, “If Klebo says it, then we should allow it.” And politicians are absolutely purple what he thinks. Even if our skiers are invited to the World Cup, they may simply not be allowed to enter the country without a Schengen visa. There are therefore many political problems which can only be solved thanks to the words of a certain Klebo.

If a senior official said that, then it would be possible to treat such a statement in a different way. But Klebo was just speaking as an athlete. He understands that in recent years competition has grown between him and Alexander Bolshunov, and without our skier he simply will not be interested in racing, ”quotes RT Immortals.

In July, the FIS extended the suspension of Russian athletes from competitions under its auspices until the end of the summer season. There is no decision yet for the winter season.
