“I’m resting for now. I will miss next season” — skeleton athlete Elena Nikitina

2014 Olympic Skeleton Bronze Medalist Elena Nikitina told of his career suspension.

In the offseason, she dabbled in speed skating and wakesurfing, and now plans to compete in triathlon competitions. Nikitina told about this in a conversation with a correspondent.

– I am resting for now, I will miss the next season. At the moment I am not training, because I had a coronavirus, I need to recover. Fortunately, the disease passed without complications, now everything is fine.

As for training in skating, I just decided to learn – I wanted to. Also, this summer I mastered wakesurfing. I was interested in training with skaters. Do I see this as a future sport? No, I just wanted to learn, I came to practice.

In October, I plan to participate in a triathlon in Sochi. In principle, I will have no problem with cycling and running, but swimming is difficult. Therefore, I have already spent three training sessions in the pool, swam one kilometer. At the Sochi stadium, I have to swim 750 meters in open water. This, of course, is more difficult than in the pool, Nikitina, 29, told .

Last season, Nikitina took third place in the overall World Cup standings. At the 2022 Olympics in Beijing, the athlete became the 16th.
