President of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Belarus, Viktor Lukashenko, during an extended meeting of the Athletes’ Commission of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), said that the country’s NOC will do everything possible to protect athletes and help them under sanctions.
On September 15-16, a number of events are taking place in Moscow as part of an expanded meeting of the ROC Athletes’ Commission, which is attended by leaders and top athletes from all sports. Members of the Athletes’ Commission of the NOC of Belarus also take part in the meetings. The main topic of discussion is the development of a sports career within the framework of sanctions.
— Thanks to the Russian side for the invitation. I am happy that these meetings are becoming traditional. More recently, we met in Minsk. We discussed a wide range – from how to protect athletes in this difficult time to a post-sport career. Yes, these are difficult times for Russian and Belarusian sports. But athletes are fighters. And by overcoming difficulties, we will succeed in all areas. I will say to the athletes: you compete not only for victories and your pride, but for your country. And we on the NOC side will do everything to protect and help you,” Lukashenka said at the opening ceremony.
