Belarusian biathlete Smolsky: “I hope the IBU will allow us to participate in international tournaments”

Belarusian Olympic medalist biathlete Anton Smolsky expressed the hope that the Congress of the International Biathlon Union (IBU) could allow Russians and Belarusians to participate in some stages of the World Cup.

The IBU Congress, which is expected to decide on admission, will take place September 15-18 in Salzburg, Austria.

— Of course, we hope for the best that we can compete at the international level. Hopefully they let us in, but of course it’s a tough time for us. But, as you can see, most of the strong rivals are here, and they are competing with us and us,” Smolsky told .

– Do you expect there to be a full international season?

– I hope. If not full-fledged, but participation in the extreme stages of the World Cup – why not.

– What does the team think?

“We gave that up a long time ago. At first it was difficult, but today we are listening to today’s competitions and we are not going too far. We listen emotionally to the competitions that are offered to us today.

On March 2, the IBU suspended Russian and Belarusian athletes from participating in competitions under the auspices of the organization. On March 29, the IBU suspended the membership of the Russian Biathlon Union (RBU) and the Belarusian Biathlon Federation (BFB).
