The Congress of the International Biathlon Union decided that domestic competitions were sufficient for athletes from aggressor countries.
It is better for Russians and Belarusians to compete at home and not spend money on participating in international competitions.
like that decided Congress of the International Biathlon Union and continued the disqualification of athletes from aggressor countries.
At the meeting of the IBU’s highest governing body in Salzburg, Austria, 39 of the 46 members of the Congress voted in favor, with five abstaining.
In addition to Russian athletes, officials from Russia and Belarus will also not be allowed to compete. As stated in the official IBU release – the suspension will be in effect “until further notice”.
Recall that the International Biathlon Union imposed sanctions on athletes of Russia and Belarus after the start of a large-scale attack on Kremlin troops in Ukraine on February 24. As stated before in the official decision – the disqualification of biathlon federations of these two countries will be valid until they “show actions in support of IBU values.”
It should be noted that earlier the IOC recommended that international federations continue the disqualification of Russian athletes.
