Biathlete Anton Babikov who won the pursuit race at the PARI stage of the Commonwealth Cup in Raubichi (Belarus), told that he was happy to win this tournament, because there are many titled opponents.
Babikov went the distance on Saturday without a miss on the range. Second place belongs to another Russian Kirill Bazhin (2 misses), Belarusian Anton Smolsky is third (3).
What does winning the Commonwealth Cup mean to you?
– At the moment, this is an assessment of the current state, of the ongoing training. Of course it’s good to win, because there are a lot of title opponents here, there are no scapegoats here. Yes, until September, and the main departures will be in the winter, so today you don’t have to congratulate yourself very much for a victory or scold yourself for a defeat. We need to analyze what needs to be added, and that’s the most important thing now,” Babikov said.
– Belarusians will not go to Chaikovsky for the Russian Championship due to the large number of departures in the summer. Do you have a surplus?
– Of course, we usually only race in September, and now we have a long month with competitions. As I said, I lost several kilograms of precious muscle mass. Nevertheless, we will still go to Tchaikovsky, maybe we will not go through the whole program, but we have to run there. We are obliged to play for our region, we are obliged to support our comrades who did not come here, but who are going to play in the championship. I hope it will not take so much force and affect the subsequent preparation.
