International Biathlon Union (IBU) President Olle Dalin was not the only candidate for the position of head of the organization six months ago, but, apparently, other candidates have found a compromise and withdrawn their candidacies in favor of the Swede, the head of the Russian Biathlon Union (RBU) told Viktor Maygurov .
Dalin, 68, has led the IBU since 2018. On Saturday, he was elected for another four-year term. The Swede was the only candidate for the presidency. He was re-elected unanimously.
– The news was expected on one side, on the other – six months ago I know that there were 2-3 candidates. It seems that these candidates have agreed among themselves. Current IBU General Secretary Max Cobb and First Vice-President Jiří Gamza were such presidential candidates. Apparently they found a compromise,” Maygurov said.
– Is it possible to say that Dahlin does not lead the IBU, but that other people do it for him?
I would not make such statements. In any case, the decision is made by the IBU Executive Committee, and the President has the same vote as everyone else. Our RBU structure today is similar to that of the IBU, because a president does not decide everything.
