“We have to show foreigners that biathlon in Russia is getting better and better” – Nuzhdov

Vice-President of the Russian Biathlon Union (RBU) Alexei Nuzhdov on the air of the program “There is a theme!” on “”, said that under the conditions of suspension of international competitions, the organization is taking steps to develop domestic tournaments.

– We have a public organization which federates the regional federations of our country. Our main task is to develop our sport in the country so that it is as popular and professional as possible. It is desirable that our level be the best in the world. But today we are excommunicated from international competitions. Believe me, we are not sitting idly by. We solve the problem that is in our power in this situation.

We have close contacts with Belarusians. The Commonwealth Cup races at Raubichi went so well and were so intriguing that the whole country watched. There were colleagues from , the views are growing. We need to develop the sport in such a way that foreign colleagues don’t think our sport will get worse without them. They must see that it is getting better and better. Our main task is to ensure that our Commonwealth Cup stages in terms of organisation, competition, participants and media coverage are no worse than the World Cup stages.

We communicate with foreign colleagues on the fringes. It cannot be said that everyone unequivocally adheres to the position that Russia and Belarus have been correctly eliminated. The results of the votes at the congress of the IBU (International Biathlon Union) do not reflect the real opinion of colleagues. Many fear they will also be fired if they take our position. But there are many more representatives of foreign federations in favor of us continuing to participate in world sports,” Nuzhdov said on .
