World ski champion Maxim Vylegzhanin spoke about the possible return of Russian and Belarusian athletes to competitions under the auspices of the International Ski Federation (FIS).
Earlier, FIS general secretary Michel Vion said that in December the door to the World Cup could be “open” to Russians and Belarusians.
“I haven’t thought about it since I heard the news from you. Since this is being considered, it is good that there is an option for athletes to participate in international competitions. We hope that will be the case, that Russians and Belarusians will be allowed in,” Vylegzhanin told the “Championship”.
In March, the FIS followed the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and suspended Russians and Belarusians from competing due to the situation in Ukraine until the end of the season. The ban was later extended. Earlier, Russian Ski Racing Federation (FLGR) head Elena Vyalbe said the FIS is expected to make a decision on the admission of Russian and Belarusian athletes in early October.
