Russian skiers will not be sent back to international competitions in the near future, their suspension will be long, says commentator Dmitri Guberniev.
On Thursday, VG released a statement from International Ski Federation (FIS) Secretary General Michel Vion that the return of Russians and Belarusians to the World Cup could take place as early as December. This decision can be taken after the appropriate recommendation of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
– The key phrase in Vion’s speech is a reference to the IOC. Our skiers will not compete in Planica – everyone should understand that. The suspension will be long. It seems to me that people who say now that we will come back somewhere are sleeping.
FIS puts a good face on a bad game. It all depends on the IOC. We must be aware that in December no one will definitely take us anywhere and prepare us to skip the Winter Olympics. It is necessary to organize competitions in Russia, to support sport, to create conditions for its development, Guberniev told .
Slovenian Planica will host the World Ski Championships in 2023. The Winter Olympics will be held in 2026 in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo.
