Zavyalova does not believe that Russian skiers will be sent back to international competitions

Double world champion Olga Zavyalova in a conversation with , she expressed the opinion that Russian skiers would not be sent back to international competitions and would not be offered to compete in a neutral status.

On Thursday, VG released a statement from International Ski Federation (FIS) Secretary General Michel Vion that the return of Russians and Belarusians to the World Cup could take place as early as December. This decision can be taken after the appropriate recommendation of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Vion also noted that if allowed, Russian and Belarusian athletes would likely go to neutral status initially.

– To be honest, I can’t believe that our skiers will be back in international competitions. I don’t think there will be such a possibility. Nor will they offer to compete in a neutral status.

If, in theory, they offer a neutral status… On the one hand, athletes can be understood – they need to compete. But they can also offer a neutral status with the signing of certain papers requiring the renunciation of the country. It is unacceptable. I think our athletes will disagree with this,” Zavyalova told .

At the end of February, the IOC’s executive committee recommended that federations ban Russian and Belarusian athletes from taking part in competitions due to the situation in Ukraine. Many federations have followed these recommendations.
