The executive committee of the International Luge Federation (FIL) has temporarily suspended the participation of Russian athletes in competitions due to the situation in Ukraine, according to the organization’s website.
It should be noted that this decision was taken for security reasons, while the FIL will closely monitor the situation and react as events unfold.
In March, the FIL executive committee temporarily banned Russians from participating in international competitions due to the situation in Ukraine. Afterwards, the president of the Russian Luge Federation (FSSR), Natalia Gart, told that the FIL arbitration tribunal had granted the appeal to withdraw the Russian lugers from international competitions, but that the FIL had the intention to exclude the FSSR from its organization.
The new World Cup season kicks off on December 3 in Innsbruck, Austria.
