russian biathlete Evgenia Burtasova told that after the Beijing Olympics she lost her desire to train and show results.
On Saturday, Burtasova took 10th place in the sprint at the Russian Championships from Tchaikovsky. These competitions were the first for her since her participation in the Olympics in February. In Beijing, the Russian performed only in the individual race, where she took 77th position.
– How did you feel when you arrived at Tchaikovsky for the Russian Championship?
I felt this atmosphere. Everyone missed. Turns out everyone lost me (laughs). They ask, “Where have you been? We thought you were done.” I didn’t seem to be going anywhere, I just live as secretly as I can and don’t want to do it for show. I just live and don’t bother anyone. Came back here and felt the good atmosphere. Everyone missed you, I saw everyone. The fans… There are a lot of them, I’m very happy that there are so many. The juniors admire the atmosphere, they don’t “ever raced in such an atmosphere. We too have forgotten that. It’s good that the fans remember us, and we, in turn, are always happy to see them.
– Have you thought about ending your career yourself?
– I reached the Olympics so far, I really wanted to finish (laughs). This period was very difficult for me psychologically. There weren’t such serious thoughts, but with the start of the suspensions, I realized that I would spend 2022 ‘relaxing, relaxing’. I realized that I was going to rest forgetting all these stories, how I was doing at the Olympics, what was happening there. I decided that I would heal. I also want to want, as before, to train and show results. And now it’s so incomprehensible: it looks like you want to, but it seems like you should relax anyway.
When I arrived from the Olympics, I didn’t want anything at all. The “don’t touch me” vibe, then the illnesses overlapped. I realized that the Olympics compresses everything, even though I didn’t really participate. Anyway, my health is pretty good. I didn’t want anything. And since spring, somewhere, I’ve been slowly doing something.
