In a Scandinavian country, they are ready to give up their favorite sport for the sake of human values.

Norway will not compete in the World Cup and the World Championships in cross-country skiing if the Russians are allowed to compete. This was announced by the head of the committee for cross-country skiing in the Norwegian Ski Federation Torbjorn Skogstad.

According to the functionary, for Scandinavian athletes, the choice of values is more important than their favorite sport. Therefore, the representatives of the country are only in favor of the complete disqualification of Russian athletes, and do not support their entry into competitions even in a neutral status.

“Of course, we have to define our position if this happens. We willingly want to compete with all athletes from all countries, but in this case it is about choosing values. To defend what we stand for, on behalf of ski racing, I can say that we are ready to go far.

This will be an important decision for the entire federation. Speaking for myself, it’s hard for me to imagine how we can compete with the Russians while the war is going on in Ukraine.

We will be forced to boycott. Such a decision will have many consequences, so it needs to be discussed if there is such a situation. We are responsible for the correct behavior,” Skugstad was quoted as saying by abcnyheter.no.

It should be noted that earlier Norway refused to participate in the meeting of the International Ski Federation in Switzerland due to the presence of representatives from Russia there.

Remember, earlier it became known that the Russians were allowed to compete in jiu-jitsu because of which Ukrainian athletes announced a boycott.
