The 44th Copa del Rey MAPFRE was officially presented at the Real Club Náutico de Palma ahead of its run from Tuesday 4 August to Saturday 8 August, with more than 100 boats from roughly 20 countries expected to compete in the bay of Palma.
RCNP director Manu Fraga highlighted the high competitive level of the fleet and described the regatta as one of the leading international sailing references. He also pointed to the event’s commitment to initiatives beyond sport through its #MásQueUnaRegata programme, which spans social, cultural and environmental dimensions.
RCNP president Rafael Gil said the Copa del Rey MAPFRE, after more than four decades of history, remains one of the great references in international sailing and one of the most important sporting events in the Mediterranean. He said Palma once again brings together some of the best crews in the world, cementing the prestige of a regatta that has evolved without losing its essence.
Gil thanked public institutions, sponsors and collaborators, with a special mention to MAPFRE, whose support over two decades has been decisive in establishing the event as a global reference. He also highlighted the economic, tourism and social impact of the competition on Palma and Mallorca.
Javier Olías, MAPFRE’s regional director in the Balearic Islands, said the company is proud to be part of the event’s history and that its renewed commitment to the RCNP reflects a relationship built on trust, stability and shared values strengthened year after year.
The presentation ceremony closed with a traditional ribbon-cutting to mark the official start of the regatta.
