The leadership of the Boxing Federation of Ukraine is outraged by the decision of the IBA
President of the Boxing Federation of Ukraine Kirill Shevchenko commented on the decision International Boxing Federation (IBA) suspend the activities of our federation due to government interference.
“The Boxing Federation of Ukraine learned through the media about the decision of the IBA on September 23, 2022 to suspend the activities of our federation due to “government interference”. It also became known about the decision to appoint Volodymyr Prodyvus “coordinator of the IBA boxers belonging to the Ukrainian boxing federation”. This is terrible and unacceptable. How can Prodivus coordinate Ukrainian boxers if he fled Ukraine 7 months ago.”
“We were not given the opportunity to be heard before the decision of the IBA Board of Directors, which is contrary to chapters 13.1 and 13.2 of the IBA Bylaws. We are convinced that this disqualification is just an attempt to silence the Ukrainian boxing community.”
“According to Article 13.3 of the IBA Bylaws, “the suspension shall be referred to a meeting of Congress for consideration.” Therefore, I once again call on all national federations to show solidarity with the Ukrainian boxing family and vote not to be suspended.”
“In addition, I urge you to demand legal proof of connection with the Boxing Federation of Ukraine for those who illegally registered with the assistance of the IBA management to represent the Boxing Federation of Ukraine in Yerevan. I hope for the restoration of justice by the FBU. We are ready to delegate participants for remote participation in the Yerevan Congress.”
“For your information, friends, the NOC of Ukraine, as well as the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine, operate within the framework of Ukrainian legislation, which, as noted in a letter from the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine to the IBA dated August 8, 2022, “makes it impossible for state bodies to interfere in the activities of public organizations, and also does not provide legal grounds for assessing their activities and making decisions on the merits of the issues raised by them.
“Dear National Federations, the Ukrainian Boxing Federation, a full member of the IBA, would like to state that the only government that interferes in our work is the Russian government through its illegal invasion of Ukraine.”
“We would like to reiterate that the lack of democracy and rule enforcement within the IBA will lead to the destruction of our sport if we do not act together now.”
Earlier, the IBA suspended the activities of the Boxing Federation of Ukraine. The association considered that the state bodies of Ukraine are interfering in the work of a sports organization.
Recall, on February 22, an extraordinary reporting and election conference of the FBU was held at the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine. Representatives of 17 regional federations elected Kirill Shevchenko as the new president of the FBU.
On June 20, the Boxing Federation of Ukraine sent an open letter to the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine and the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine, in which it announced the raider seizure of the organization.
