Ukrainian boxer resumes his career
Former light heavyweight world champion Alexander Gvozdyk told about the new details of his return to boxing.
“Firstly, now I no longer have a business. Because from the moment the war began, I no longer have it. Now I feel good. I do not have such a burning need for money, but like any person I speak honestly. Of course, if you don’t make money, you spend it. And they tend to end. So something needs to be thought about. In the meantime, you have plenty of free time. The faster way to make money is to get back in the ring.”
“By the way, here you can say“ thank you ”, it seems to me, to a person who is hated by all of Ukraine. Thanks to him, I return to boxing. President of the country that attacked us. This is a joke, of course. If not for him, I would have continued to do business.
“There is no date yet. I’m getting ready. At first, we even talked about boxing on the undercard Canelo – Golovkin on September 17th. But it didn’t work out. Then the probable date was October 22, which is still probable, but I don’t really believe in it anymore. Therefore, I focus, perhaps, on November.
“I train with Marcos Contreras – he is my first coach who prepared me for the first 15 or 16 fights. Now I’m a free agent. I don’t have a promoter or a manager. There are people with whom we communicate, with whom I hope that we will cooperate in the future.”
“But right now I’m not ready to name them yet. These are already specific people, I have specific plans, but I’m not ready to open them yet. Let something happen first. They will give me a fight, and then I will say that yes – this is my manager, and this is my promoter. As long as it doesn’t go beyond a conversation.”
Gvozdyk, 35, has previously said he hopes to resume his career in November.
In 2018, Gvozdyk became the world champion by defeating Adonis Stevenson. After that, Alexander had one successful title defense.
The Ukrainian fought his last fight in the fall of 2019, losing to Artur Beterbiev by technical knockout in the tenth round. In 2020, Alexander ended his career.
