Russian Mixed Martial Artist (MMA) Alexander Shlemenko says he wants to make sure his fight against a compatriot Magomed Ismailov won’t break.
Shlemenko drew Friday in Omsk with Brazilian Kleber Souza. The duel between Shlemenko and Ismailov is scheduled for December in Yekaterinburg during the RCC tournament.
How many fights do you feel ready to have in your career?
– There are no such feelings. I like to fight. Now, it seems to me, I am reborn, gaining a little. Today I was breathing surprisingly well. Before that, he was more tired. I wasn’t in great shape, but I was emotionally overwhelmed. Now I exhaled a little, not a lot, because it was a draw, not a win. I did not take the road to victory. I hope Maga will help me do this. I don’t know what Maga is afraid of. Ilic beat me, here I ended the fight in a draw.
– Why is the current Shlemenko dangerous for Ismailov?
“Because Maga won’t be able to keep up with that pace, that’s all. Let it show. Three rounds with Ilic in boxing is not five to five minutes. How many years ago did Maga “He played three three-minute rounds? In 2019? And today I was seen, three by three, at a normal pace. That might make him nervous.
Don’t think I’m becoming someone who starts calling him out, pulling him out. I just want to understand if there will be a fight or not. And here are all those moments, to participate in the “medical”: “I’m ready, I’m stomping, it’s going to be difficult for you, I’m drinking some kind of tea.” When is the fight? “We have to reschedule, I’m not ready.” Not ready with me, but ready with someone else.
Are there too many fights? No, I’m starting to improve, I have to fight often. If I don’t, I’ll have to stop my career, that’s my thing. I grow from fight to fight. If you look at my career, when I fought often, I added and reached the level where I “undid” everyone. When I started fighting less often, I started to lose ground and got worse,” Shlemenko told reporters after the fight.
Due to Shlemenko, 38 years old, 61 wins and 14 losses. Ismailov on October 7 in Moscow will hold a boxing match with Serbian Alexander Ilic, who beat Shlemenko in August.
