“Everyone in the world understands that boxing without the Russians is not boxing” – Tatyana Kiriyenko

Russian Boxing Federation Secretary General Tatyana Kiriyenko said the absence of Russians on the international stage has a detrimental effect on the entire boxing world.

On Friday, the Russian Men’s Boxing Championship begins in Chita. The next major international tournament is the world championship in Tashkent in 2023.

– I am sure that the Russian Championship in Chita will be held at a high level. We are all ready for serious work, because the national team of Russia will be selected here. We do not believe in the pessimistic forecasts according to which our boxers will not participate in international tournaments soon. It’s not true. The work is ongoing and yesterday the president of the International Boxing Association Umar Nazarovich Kremlev in Kemerovo at the forum “Russia – a sporting power” said that he supports the decision of the European Boxing Confederation to fire the athletes Russians and Belarusians at international tournaments.

In the near future, similar decisions will be made on other continents. The boxing world is strong not only in Russia, but also in the world. And everyone understands that without the Russians, world boxing is not boxing. I want to say that there was no negativity at the Congress of the International Boxing Association in Yerevan. Everyone is interested in seeing our boxers compete again in international competitions,” Kirienko said at a press conference ahead of the start of the Russian championship in Chita.
