Ireland condemns illegal FBU disqualification and calls for new IBA presidential election

Earlier, representatives of more than 20 boxing federations from around the world came out in support of the FBU

Irish Amateur Boxing Association (IABA) Condemns Unlawful Suspension Boxing Federation of Ukraine (FBU) International Boxing Association (IBA) and called for new presidential elections in the organization.

“The Irish Amateur Boxing Association strongly and unequivocally condemns the illegal removal of the Ukrainian Boxing Federation from the IBA’s world governing body,” the IABA said in a statement.

The IABA also called for a new presidential election as the world governing body “seems to be taking a path without Olympic boxing.”

Earlier, presidents and representatives of more than 20 boxing federations from around the world came out in support of the FBU and Ukrainian boxers. The leaders of the associations sent a collective letter to the board of directors of the International Boxing Association (IBA) with a request to explain the reasons for the suspension of athletes.

Recall that the IBA suspended the activities of the Boxing Federation of Ukraine. The organization considered that the state bodies of Ukraine were interfering in the work of the sports organization.

The Ukrainian junior boxing team left the European Championship, which takes place in Italy. This decision was made after the International Boxing Federation (IBA) did not allow the Ukrainian team to compete in Italian Montesilvano under the national flag.

Later, the IBA confirmed the permission for Ukrainian boxers to compete under the national flag in international tournaments.
