Hughie Fury pulls out of Hunter fight due to coronavirus

Boxer intends to take rest until the end of the year

Hughie Fury (26-3, 15 KOs)cousin of WBC champion Tyson Fury, refused to fight the American Michael Hunter (20-1-2, 14 KOs) due to the coronavirus.

“I am a professional boxer who needs to fight to pay his bills and live. But I’ve been out of action for over a year now, and to my dismay, the doctors advised me to take a full rest now. I have long-term covid symptoms.”

“I feel powerless. I went through all sorts of checks and was diagnosed with “prolonged symptoms of a covid infection.” It’s frustrating, but there’s nothing I can do if my body won’t let me train. I’m going to take a break for the rest of this year and get back to work next year when I’m well rested.”

“My promoter guaranteed me a big fight on my return. If Michael Hunter is next, that’s fine. If it’s someone else, that’s fine too. I will fight anyone, as I have done for many years.”

Fury has not been in the ring since October 2021 when he defeated Christian Hammer. The duel with Hunter was supposed to take place in Birmingham on October 29th.

We will remind, Michael Hunter plans to hold a rematch with Oleksandr Usyk. In April 2017, as part of the first heavyweight, the Ukrainian defeated Hunter by unanimous decision.
