An appeal was made to the IBA member countries
Boxing Federation of Ukraine published an official release address to the International Boxing Association (IBA), in which it condemned the decision to allow boxers from Russia and Belarus to compete.
“The International Boxing Association IBA, headed by the Russian Kremlin, continues to make shameful decisions for the civilized world.”
“Despite the continuation of Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine and the intensification of aggressive military measures through “partial mobilization”, the Kremlin leadership of the IBA, by decision of October 5, 2022, lifted the ban on the participation of teams in Russia and Belarus in competitions. That is, the sanctions have been lifted, and athletes from Russia and Belarus have been allowed to participate in international boxing competitions under the flags of their countries.”
“The IBA’s rhetoric about, they say, “political neutrality in boxing” does not deprive of responsibility for supporting the war and genocide, which is provided by the aggressor country Russia and its accomplice Belarus in relation to Ukraine and Ukrainians.”
“Such cynical IBA decisions and unacceptable policies deliberately implemented by the representative of Russia – the president of the IBA, are quickly bringing world boxing closer to being excluded from the Olympic Games. This has been repeatedly noted by the IOC.”
“World sport and the Olympic competitive program may lose Olympic boxing due to the fact that the international federation is led by an official of the Putin regime and financed by Gazprom.
“A terrorist state must not be allowed to use sport to promote its aggression and propaganda.”
“The Ukrainian Boxing Community (Boxing Federation of Ukraine) calls on all national federations of the IBA member countries to oppose the lifting of sanctions against boxers and officials from Russia and Belarus and adhere to the unchanging position of the International Olympic Committee on the non-admission of athletes in Russia and Belarus.”
“We also emphasize the demand for a change in leadership of the IWA before it ruins the reputation and achievement of great boxing!”
It should be reminded that the Board of Directors of the International Boxing Association allowed boxers from Russia and Belarus to compete under the auspices of the IBA.
President of the Boxing Federation of Ukraine and vice-president of the IBA Volodymyr Prodivus said that the vote for the resumption of the participation of boxers from the aggressor countries took place in secret.
Earlier, the IBA suspended the activities of the Boxing Federation of Ukraine. The organization considered that the state bodies of Ukraine were interfering in the work of the sports organization.
