The fight between British boxers Chris Eubank and Conor Benn will not take place on the scheduled date after Benn tested positive for doping.
It was previously reported that the banned anti-estrogen clomiphene was found in Benn’s sample. The Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA) is responsible for the fight, which was due to take place in London on Saturday.
– Conor was caught using a banned substance, so the fight is called off. I can not believe it. I apologize to the fans and everyone who bought tickets and booked hotels, this shouldn’t have happened,” Eubank wrote on social media.
Promotion company Matchroom Boxing announced that the fight had been postponed.
The British Boxing Federation had previously announced that the fight had to be called off as “not in the best interests of boxing”, with promoter Eddie Hearn noting that the B sample had not yet been opened so his client would not could not be considered an offender. Previously, Benn had been tested by the UK Anti-Doping Agency (UKAD), which found no violations.
In the professional ring, the 26-year-old Benn has 21 wins (14 by knockout) in 21 fights.
