The decision was supported by 14 members of the IBA Council
President of the Boxing Federation of Ukraine and Vice President of the IBA Vladimir Prodivus spoke about the details of the scandalous decision of the International Boxing Federation to lift sanctions from Russian and Belarusian athletes.
“I saw the results of the vote for the lifting of sanctions against athletes from Russia and Belarus. It turns out that 14 members of the Board of Directors at the IBA supported this decision.”
“I don’t believe this number. [Потому что] the expression of will took place online and was completely secret, which is unacceptable in the current conditions. Such a format can easily be equated with pseudo-referendums in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.”
“I emphasize once again that the decision to lift sanctions should only be made publicly and openly. Let the whole world know the names of those who support the killer countries.”
“As a Vice President of the IBA, I will continue to support Ukraine and Ukrainian boxers in every possible way. I will make every effort to ensure that my initiative to exclude athletes from the representatives of the aggressor countries remains unchanged and we have not heard about Russian and Belarusian athletes at international competitions for a long time.”
It should be reminded that the Board of Directors of the International Boxing Association allowed boxers from Russia and Belarus to take part in competitions under the auspices of the IBA.
President of the Boxing Federation of Ukraine and vice-president of the IBA Volodymyr Prodivus said that the vote for the resumption of the participation of boxers from the aggressor countries took place in secret.
Wladimir Klitschko in his address sharply criticized the decision of the International Boxing Federation. In turn, the FBU appealed to all participating countries with a call to prevent representatives of Russia and Belarus from participating in the competition.
The appeal of the Boxing Federation of Ukraine was supported by the Swedish Boxing Association – boxers from Sweden will not compete in IBA tournaments, to which athletes from Russia and Belarus will be admitted.
Earlier, the IBA suspended the activities of the Boxing Federation of Ukraine. The organization considered that the state bodies of Ukraine were interfering in the work of the sports organization.
