Athletistic/ Boxing. Former boxer, deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Dmitry Pirog commented on the statement of the head of the Swedish Boxing Federation Per-Axel Sheholm on the intention of the Swedish side to boycott the boxing competitions in which Russian athletes will participate.

“Once again we hear provocative statements. Moreover, no one is shy about speaking openly about the political component of the process. Obviously there is pressure for other countries to join this anti-boycott as well. It is worth recalling that the decision on the admission of Russian and Belarusian boxers was made by the directors of the board of the IBA (International Boxing Association – approx. Athletistic), and this is the body collective director of the federation, in which representatives of different countries and continents work,” said Pirog.

Earlier, Per-Axel Sheholm called the admission of Russians and Belarusians to international tournaments “unacceptable”. The head of the Swedish Boxing Federation added that representatives of Spain and many other Western European countries agree with him, who are ready to boycott competitions with the participation of Belarusian and Russian boxers.

The president of the International Boxing Association is Russian Umar Kremlev, who was re-elected for a new term on May 14, 2022. The decision to lift the ban on the participation of boxers from Russia and Belarus in competitions under the auspices of the ‘IBA was taken on October 5th.
