Stevenson: Lomachenko is interested in belts, he is not focused on me

The American believes that Vasily will prefer the fight with Haney in the first place

American boxer Shakur Stevenson (18-0, 9 KOs) believes that the Ukrainian Vasily Lomachenko (16-2, 11 KOs) may prefer to fight with Devin Haneyand not with him.

“At the end of the day, Lomachenko wants the belts. His thoughts are not really focused on me. So you can’t blame me if he doesn’t fight me right now and pick Haney.”

“Probably it would make more sense for him. I just have to sit back and be ready when the time comes.”

Stevenson defeated Robson Conceicao in his last fight. At the end of the fight, all three judges gave a confident advantage to Shakur – 117-109, 118-108 and 117-109. At the same time, on the eve of the fight, the American did not fit into the regulated weight, which is why he vacated the WBO and WBC titles in the second featherweight.

Stevenson after the victory announced his readiness to fight Lomachenko. The American believes that he deserves to fight the champion, like the Ukrainian or Devin Haney.

Promoter Bob Arum believes that Lomachenko and Stevenson can really be staged in 2023. Shakur himself expressed a similar opinion.

On October 29, Ukrainian Vasily Lomachenko will fight Jemaine Ortiz at Madison Square Garden in New York. If Lomachenko wins, he is looking forward to a fight with undisputed lightweight champion Devin Haney.
