Magdaleno pulls out of Ramirez fight on Lomachenko-Ortiz undercard due to injury

The event will take place in New York on October 29

Former world champion Jessie Magdaleno (29-1, 18 KOs) refused to fight the two-time Olympic champion Cuban Robeicy Ramirez (10-1, 6 KOs) due to an old untreated injury.

The fight was supposed to take place on the undercard of the fight of the ex-world champion in three weight categories Vasily Lomachenko (16-2, 11 KOs) and an American Jemaine Ortiz (16-0-1, 8 KOs), which is scheduled on the night from Saturday to Sunday, from October 29th to October 30th. The program of the event is not planned to change significantly, the promoters are looking for a new opponent for Ramirez.

Lomachenko’s fight with Jemaine Ortiz will take place at the Hulu Theater in Madison Square Garden in New York. Initially, the fight was scheduled to take place on October 22, but a more convenient date for the card has appeared. Artur Beterbiev has rescheduled his mandatory WBO title defense with Anthony Yarde due to injury to early 2023. Thus, the duel of the Ukrainian will be the main event of the evening in New York.

Lomachenko had his last fight in December last year, defeating Richard Commey by unanimous decision. Subsequently, Vasily could fight with George Kambosos, but refused it against the backdrop of a full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine.
