Secretary General of the Russian Boxing Federation: “Spanish colleagues guaranteed our performance in the world championship for 17-18 year olds”

Secretary General of the Russian Boxing Federation Tatyana Kirienko said that the Spanish colleagues gave all the necessary guarantees for the performance of the Russian team in the world championship among athletes aged 17-18 and promised to ‘to help.

On Wednesday, the board of directors of the International Boxing Association (IBA) voted to admit boxers from Russia and Belarus to competitions under the organization’s auspices with the decision taking immediate effect. The boxers will perform under the national flag and with the national anthem. The Youth and Junior 17-18 World Championship will be held November 14-26 in Alicante, Spain. Earlier on Saturday, Kiriyenko announced that the tournament in Spain would be the first international start for Russian boxers.

– We didn’t disband the international department, many people said skeptically, “Why do we need an international department now?” No, the guys helped the sports department, we do events together. Now everyone is on. We are in time for the world championship, all juniors are ready, they are currently fighting in the international tournament in Komsomolsk-on-Amur. We will go to Spain. Yesterday I contacted a friendly boxing federation in Spain, which signed letters of support to our athletes and Belarusian athletes. They will help us with their government. All warranties, security and necessary requirements have been received. A little more work, well, there will be insinuations and provocations. But we have already experienced this in Kharkov in 2017. We passed everything with honor and dignity. I believe everything will be fine,” Kirienko told reporters.
