Former rival of IBF, WBA and WBO world champion Sergey Kovalev Igor Mikhalkin reacted to the news that the rival Magomed Ismailov (an MMA fighter who competes under boxing rules) will be one of Kovalev’s opponents.
Mikhalkin fought Kovalev in New York in 2018 and is currently training in Irkutsk to prepare for the October 20 fight. Mikhalkin also told that they haven’t negotiated a fight with Ismailov yet, but he can accept this fight even without preparation.
– I was not offered such a fight, but if you advance on this subject, I will fight with pleasure. If so, tell someone. I, Sergei Kovalev’s opponent, am ready to box. But no offer reached me.
– You have been boxing for more than 20 years, boxing as an amateur, won 24 professional fights. Let’s say you are offered to box with Magomed Ismailov. Do you think you can fight such a fight by getting up, packing your bags and arriving at the arena?
– I think it’s a bit like that. I’m ready, let’s go, let’s fight. Right now or tomorrow morning. Announce the fight, we will box, one hundred percent,” Mikhalkin told .
The boxer from Irkutsk is 37 years old, Magomed Ismailov is 36 years old, the fighter has 21 professional fights in MMA, but in 2022 Ismailov had two exhibition fights under the rules of boxing and won each of them.
