Former lightweight champion Charles do Bronx vented about weighing criteria applied in the UFC; fighter submitted Justin Gaethje last Saturday, 7
Charles do Bronx former champion of UFC, expressed his anger with the coaching staff in Arizona after having his title annulled for not meeting the weighing criteria necessary for his category. The statements were made in an interview with the “Mundo da Luta” podcast. Despite what happened, a day later, the athlete finished Justin Gaethje, last Saturday the 7th.
“It’s been 11 years looking for a dream to be a UFC champion and I arrived without stepping on anyone. I sold the fights the same way I always did. Being able to win the belt and take it home to my family, show the world that a boy who came from the community can be a UFC champion, can make the family’s life better. Losing the belt, being robbed. I was robbed, that’s the truth”said Charles.
CHANNEL – ATHLETISTIC:
The jiu-jitsu fighter had not beaten the ideal weight by a difference of 200g, although he had the necessary kilos on the eve of the official weigh-in: “The athletic commission did wrong with me. I hit my weight on Thursday, so it’s a lot on my mind. The saddest thing was seeing my family cry. my father cry. My daughter cry. My closest friends too, because they know how painful it was for me to become champion.”
Charles also revealed that the absence of notifications about the case made the situation even worse. “Imagine, you go to sleep at the weight and wake up on Friday with a whirlwind of things, 1kg over. Everyone was warned that the scale was wrong and for me, who was the champion and the star of the night, I was not advised by the commission. Then [teve] all this madness of going back to the room with 1kg missing at 45min of the second half”he explained.
“I did a sauna, hit the gauntlet and did everything a champion who is about to hit weight does. We got there and there was still 200g left. I took off my underwear, put on underwear and it weighed the same. I went back to the room and the most important thing was to keep my mind with the champion spirit”. The athlete came to consider that the problem to be solved would not be in his body mass.
“I think there was nothing else to do. I could have ripped off an arm that still wouldn’t hit the weight. The commission didn’t want me to knock. I don’t really like talking, because if I say what I want to say, I don’t even know what happens. But I could hit 66kg, which on the scale would not reach 70kg”, spiked. Charles still concluded, with his head held high:
Proved once again why he is at the 🔝 of the LW division 😤

Nobody understands God. Why did I lose the belt and He let it happen? It has some purpose, and after the fight was over, I understood. It was just a belt defense against a guy who wanted to shut me up. Charles came from below and went through the difficulty, robbed by the commission and won the fight. I think I’m the champion and a lot of people still say I’m the champion. It was such a giant thing. We have to wait to understand the purpose.”.
