On May 16, 2021, Michael Chandler (23-7-0) lost to Charles Oliveira (33-8-0 (1)) in a fight for the UFC Lightweight Championship by TKO in the second round.
Oliveira lost his championship belt on the eve of the fight with Justin Gaethje (23-4-0) on May 7, 2022, which ended in victory following Gaethje’s submission after a first-round choke.
Charles will attempt to return the championship belt on October 22 in a fight against Russia’s Islam Makhachev (22-1-0) at UFC 280 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
