Charles from the Bronx didn’t give Justin Gaethje a chance and got a big win at UFC 274; fighter still feels like he owns the lightweight belt
Charles do Bronx was quick against Justin Gaethje at the UFC 274 and got the victory. The fight between the two was loaded with much controversy, as the Brazilian lost his title for not having reached the necessary weight on the scale. Even so, he didn’t give up, he went to fight and beat his rival. The lightweight division continues without a champion, but Oliveira still considers the title his own.
In an interview for “Super Lutas”, Charles Do Bronx analyzed his victory over Justin Gaethje and showed confidence in his way of fighting. With the “heavy hand”, the former UFC lightweight champion made it clear that he still considers himself the winner of the division and explained the reasons. “(I realize) how much I’ve been evolving and being tough in the division. I fought with the best in the category. All those who were good at ‘beating’ I switched, got knocked down, got up and knocked down. I finished the fight because I knocked him down (Justin Gaethje). This shows how heavy my hand is and how much I’ve been growing in the standing and mental part. The champion has a name and is called Charles Oliveira“, he stated.
Justin Gaethje, before the confrontation, tried to overcome the Brazilian in some lines to enter the octagons with full force. The strategy didn’t work, Charles do Bronx didn’t even give his rival room to breathe and won quickly. Therefore, he declared that nothing that the rival did surprised him during the combat.
“Nothing surprised me. Everyone said a heavy hand would come and I knew it. But, as I said, I really believed in the firepower of my hands. I’m a guy who doesn’t waste opportunities. Right at the beginning of the round, I connected a left hand and he did a ‘blow’, but he managed to kick my leg, threw some hands and knocked me down. When I knocked him down, I went to do what I know best, which is jiu-jitsu to end the fight soon. I said the fight would be quick and, thank God, it was”finished.
