Devin himself does not mind fighting a Ukrainian
Former world champion in two weight categories Andre Ward declared that the undisputed world champion in lightweight Devin Haney in his next fight he must fight the former world champion in three weight categories Vasily Lomachenko.
“The first thing for Haney is to rest and enjoy the fruits of his labor, because he deserves it. From what I’ve heard, and my personal feeling, Loma should be next and probably will be.”
“We don’t know how much longer Haney will fight at lightweight. It is always difficult to make weight, but one day you come to a point where these difficulties become noticeable. I believe Haney is in that position. He knows that big fights are waiting for him. He doesn’t want to move up to the first welterweight division yet, but he needs to understand how difficult it is to move weight.”
“I think Loma is the right opponent. And then I’d like to see the winner fight Shakur Stevenson.”
The Ukrainian boxer will return to the ring on October 29. Lomachenko’s fight with Jemaine Ortiz will take place at the Hulu Theater in Madison Square Garden in New York.
Lomachenko had his last fight in December last year, defeating Richard Commey by unanimous decision. Subsequently, Vasily could fight with George Kambosos, but refused it against the backdrop of a full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Today, Haney defeated George Kambosos again and retained the WBC, WBA Super, IBF and WBO lightweight titles. Devin himself has repeatedly stated his readiness to meet Lomachenko in the ring.
