The organizers of the European Championship among women demanded to stop pressure on the Ukrainian team
President of the Boxing Federation of Montenegro Alexander Klemenko turned to the President International Boxing Association (IBA) Umar Kremlev with a demand to stop discrimination national team of Ukraine. The Ukrainian team faced new restrictions from the IBA on European Women’s Boxing Championship 2022which takes place in Montenegrin Budva.
“As the head of the organizing committee of this tournament, it became known to me that in connection with the decision of the IBA, the Ukrainian team should have restrictions on the use of their national attributes, namely, they are forbidden to wear tracksuits with the inscription “Ukrainian Boxing Federation”, and the designation of their country should look like “IBA/UKR” .
Later, the Ukrainian team was allowed to stay in their tracksuits, especially since they have no others, and apparently no one dared to offer the women’s team to walk only in underwear. The name of the country, too, was decided to be changed from the previously proposed “IBA / UKR” to “TUKR”.
“Naturally, all these manipulations with common sense could not but cause protest mood among the representatives of the Ukrainian team and a large number of teams from other states supporting them, and I, as the organizer of the tournament, had reasonable fears for the very fact of its successful holding.”
“Being confident in your common sense, I ask you to intervene, stop this farce and notify the IBA that such decisions do not contribute to cohesion, friendship and a healthy atmosphere, but only provoke conflict situations, disputes and discord in European and world boxing, seriously undermine the authority of the IBA and EUBC and give the IOC a justifiable reason to impose new sanctions aimed at excluding boxing from the international Olympic Movement.”
Earlier, the IBA suspended the activities of the Boxing Federation of Ukraine. The organization considered that the state bodies of Ukraine were interfering in the work of the sports organization.
Subsequently, the Ukrainian junior boxing team left the European Championship, which takes place in Italy. This decision was made after the International Boxing Federation (IBA) did not allow the Ukrainian team to compete in Italian Montesilvano under the national flag.
Later, the IBA confirmed the permission for Ukrainian boxers to compete under the national flag in international tournaments.
