The Aussie lost twice to Haney
Former Undisputed World Lightweight Champion George Kambosos (20-2, 10 KOs) commented on the defeat in the rematch against Devina Haney (29-0, 15 KOs) and shared his plans for the future.
“I don’t know how much time Davin has left at lightweight. I think he can move up to the first welterweight division. This will open up new opportunities for him.”
“I could have taken some easy fights and made money, but I took a risk. I believe that with my speed, my punches, smart aggression, I will compete with anyone at lightweight and give anyone a hell of a fight.”
“I still consider myself a major figure. I showed the spirit of a warrior in two fights with Haney. I lost the duel, but I’ll be back to normal soon. I will be champion again. This is not the end. I’ll have some more big fights.”
Recall that Kambosos twice lost to Haney fights for the WBC, WBA Super, IBF and WBO lightweight titles. In the second fight in Melbourne, all the judges gave the victory to Haney: 119-109, 118-110, 118-110.
Vasily Lomachenko could have held a title fight with Kambosos, but refused it against the backdrop of a full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine.
