WBA and IBF was appointed world middleweight champion Kazakhstani Gennady Golovkin fight with a contender from Brazil Esquivoy Falcao.
The exact date of the confrontation is not yet known. This fight will take place in early 2023.
Earlier, the WBA assigned Golovkin a fight with WBA Regular Erislandy Lara. However, now the Cuban will hold a voluntary defense with a new opponent. At the same time, Lara is guaranteed that he will get a duel with the winner of the Golovkin-Falcao pair.
Recall, Golovkin said after his third fight loss with Canelo Alvarez that he has big plans in the middleweight division.
On the night of September 18, Alvarez defeated Golovkin by unanimous decision and defended his titles. All judges gave Canelo the win – 116-112, 115-113, 115-113.
This was the third fight between the rivals. The first fight in September 2017 ended in a draw. A year later, the Mexican won by split decision.
