The Ukrainian returned to Ukraine and stood for the Motherland from the first days of a massive war.

Former world champion in three weight categories Vasily Lomachenko shares his memories of returning to Ukraine after a full-scale invasion by Russia.

According to the Ukrainian boxer, he immediately returned to Ukraine to join the territorial defense.

“I never believed that I would survive the war in my life. It’s terrible. It’s very terrible. When the war started, I was in Greece. I couldn’t go home because all the flights were canceled. The journey was very long. I flew to Romania, from there I went down the river, got into a boat and went home.

It was the second day of the war. The next morning, I went to the military, got weapons, military clothes and prepared for war. For myself, I realized that I could not leave home, my country. You just forget about your goals and dreams,” Lomachenko said in an interview on the Top Rank Boxing YouTube channel.

Earlier, Lomachenko talked about why he went to his second Olympics in London 2012.
