UFC 280: Charles and Islam Makhachev face each other and argue at press conference

Charles do Bronx and Islam Makhachev face off at UFC 280, next Saturday, the 22nd; the fighters had their first look and discussed during the press conference

the brazilian Charles do Bronx and the russian Islam Makhachev stole the show during the press conference for the UFC 280an event that takes place next Saturday, the 22nd. In all, 12 fighters were present at the interview that precedes the weigh-in, but all eyes turned to the protagonists of the main fight, for the lightweight belt (up to 70.3kg).

When asked if he considered the fight against the Russian as another defense or a reclaim of the belt, Charles do Bronx replied as follows: “I respect this guy, he deserves all the respect in the world, but that’s what’s going to happen: I’m a sniper, I’m going to walk all the time looking for the knockout. You can ask everyone: who is the champion?”. After the statement, the audience was divided between applause and boos.

Afterwards, Makhachev was asked about the criticism he received for not having faced any opponent who is at the top of the lightweight rankings. The Russian did not like the tone of the question and countered by citing Charles’ trajectory. “When he fought for the title, who did he beat before? He fought who before? Chandler? You guys talk about deserving it or not, but who did this guy fight?”shot.

As has been happening since the announcement of the fight between the two, Islam took the opportunity to provoke the Brazilian once again. “He has the record for the greatest finisher in history and I want to take that record for myself. I submitted my last opponents and I know I will submit him because he always gives up, and I will do it again.”said the 31-year-old fighter.

Finally, Charles questioned why this fight did not take place in Brazil, which led to a direct discussion between the two challengers. However, the Brazilian and last holder of the belt was comfortable and confident in the face of the situation.

“I am home! It’s a pleasure to be in places like this. I like to go to my opponents’ houses, since they don’t go to mine. I go over there and knock on their door,” replied Do Bronx.
