Arum: Usyk defeated Joshua twice much easier than Chisora

Promoter considers Derek a more serious opponent for Tyson Fury

Head of Top Rank Bob Arum explained why the WBC champion Tyson Fury decided to fight in his next fight with Derek Chisora. The promoter considers Derek a tougher opponent than former world champion Anthony Joshua.

“People say, ‘Well, Tyson beat Chisora twice early on.’ But I say: look what Chisora did to Oleksandr Usyk. This fight was unpredictable until Usyk was able to pull him out.”

“Then when Usyk came up against Anthony Joshua, people were like, ‘Hey, Usyk has no real chance, look how he fought Chisora. But you saw, he did it twice, and he did it a lot easier than with Derek.”

Fury and Chisora will fight their third face-to-face fight on December 3 in London at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Before that, the Gypsy King defeated Derek twice – in 2011 and 2014.

Fury, after defeating Dillian Whyte in April, announced his retirement twice, but the boxer never vacated the WBC championship belt. On social networks, Tyson has repeatedly discussed a possible fight with Usyk.

The Ukrainian refused to comment on the choice of an opponent for Fury and the expected fight itself. Usyk briefly remarked that Tyson had gone mad.

Usyk challenged Fury to a face-to-face fight after defeating Anthony Joshua. Soon, the Ukrainian said that it was impossible to fight Tyson this year. Usyk’s manager, Egis Klimas, said that there is an opportunity to fight Fury in February 2023.
