Athletistic/ MMA. New UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev of Russia has commented on a potential move to welterweight.

“I love competition. If I already dominate my weight, then why not give it a try? Going to another weight and losing is not such a terrible event. It’s like Volkanovski, who killed everyone in his division, and now he wants to try lightweight. If he succeeds, manages to win, then he will go down in history, like St. Pierre and BJ Penn. They will be remembered for a long time,” Makhachev said during the a press conference after the fight.

On October 22, Islam defeated Brazilian Charles Oliveira for the vacant UFC Lightweight Championship by hand triangle in the second round, after which Oliveira was forced into submission.

Islam has recorded 23 career wins and 11 straight wins with one loss. Because of Charles Oliveira now – 9 losses with 33 wins and one fight, which was declared invalid. Charles broke his winning streak, which consisted of 11 fights won in a row.
