Lomachenko: Davis has never fought top lightweights

Vasily is interested in the style of an American, but he wants to evaluate it with more serious rivals

Former world champion in three weight divisions Vasily Lomachenko (16-2, 11 KOs) gave an assessment to one of his potential rivals Gervonte “Tank” Davis (27-0, 25 KOs). Vasily is interested in the style of the American, but he wants to see him in a fight with really strong opponents in lightweight.

“Look, Davis has never fought the best fighters. Isaac Cruz… I had never heard of him before this fight. I don’t know anything about him, but now Cruz deserves a spot in the top fight.”

“But I didn’t see a good opponent for Davis at 135 pounds. He is a boxer who understands boxing and knows what he needs to do in the ring. But people need to see his skills with other guys.”

“Davis is very strong. He knows when to use his powerful punch and he keeps his distance very well. Now Tank is at the top of our weight class.”

Gervonta Davis is close to signing a contract to fight Ryan Garcia. Earlier, Garcia said that the fans demanded that he fight with “Tank”. Also, promoter Eddie Hearn believes that this fight has huge potential.

Gervonta Davis fought his last fight at the end of May, defeating compatriot Rolando Romero to defend his WBA lightweight title.

The Ukrainian boxer will return to the ring on October 29. Lomachenko’s fight with Jemaine Ortiz will take place at the Hulu Theater in Madison Square Garden in New York.
