The former world champion in three weight categories spoke about the role of the Motherland in his boxing career.
Former world champion in three weight categories, Vasily Lomachenko, said he was proud to represent Ukraine at the international level.
According to the athlete, it was an honor for him to fight under the blue and yellow flag.
“You were born in this country, grew up with it. Our country gave you the opportunity to be an athlete who represents it. Of course, this is very important for me, for all our athletes. You must represent your country. Of course, it is always an honor for me.
On the first day of the war, you can’t believe it, you don’t take it too seriously. But on the second, third day you realize the truth and you understand that this is a real war and a big problem for people.
Because I felt responsible for my family, my country, the people around me, I stayed in Ukraine. I went into the military, got a military uniform, weapons and stayed to defend our country,” Lomachenko said in the documentary Battle Lines: Lomachenko.
It will be remembered that on October 29, the Ukrainian boxer will fight Jamen Ortiz.
Earlier, Lomachenko explained why, after the start of the war, he refused to fight for the title of absolute champion.
