The President of the World Boxing Council spoke about the sanctions against the representatives of the aggressor countries.
The World Boxing Council does not include Russians and Belarusians in their ratings. This was announced by the president of the organization, Mauricio Suleiman, quoted by RIA Novosti.
According to him, such a decision was made at the WBC Congress in Mexican Acapulco. In addition, representatives of the aggressor countries cannot compete for the organization’s championship titles.
“All boxers from Russia and Belarus have been removed from the WBC ratings. The organization will not impose fights in these two countries. Their citizens will not be able to compete for the WBC title,” said Suleiman .
Note that at the time of the decision, there were several Russian boxers in the WBC ratings. And some of them are title holders. Artur Beterbiev, also a Canadian citizen, holds the WBC light heavyweight belt. Aleksey Papin is number one in the WBC cruiserweight ranking, while Evgeny Romanov is number one in the catchweight division.
At the same time, the WBC left a loophole for athletes, saying that Russian and Belarusian boxers can apply for review of the decision, depending on their relationship with Russia.
Recall that earlier the International Boxing Federation removed all sanctions from the Russians, allowing them to compete under their own flag and with an anthem. At the same time, the IBA imposed a ban on Ukrainians – forbidding them to perform with national symbols.
