Olympic champion Vlasov thinks kids should get into wrestling, not MMA

Double Olympic champion in Greco-Roman wrestling Roman Vlasov believes that children starting their career in sport should focus on wrestling, an Olympic sport, rather than mixed martial arts.

– The show must be exclusively outside the mat, and there is no show on the mat. We have one of the most competitive and developed sports in the world, so the spectacle should be in the form of television, weigh-ins and some kind of eyeliner, and sparks still fly on the mat, but no one is ever far from us cripples. Maximum – bruises and abrasions, as often happened to me.

I respect the representatives of the fight industry, but I think that for children there is nothing better than our sport, classic, with Olympic reach and with Olympic history, thanks to which you can glorify the name of your parents and your coach. But I understand that the fights are now in such demand that many children also go there,” Vlasov told Metaratings.ru.

Vlasov won gold at the 2012 and 2016 Olympics, became a three-time world champion.
